Adding additional items to either 'Type' or 'Class'

Is there a way to add additional variables to wither the 'Type' or 'Class' fields? For example, Our TranSelect machines, should be labelled as something like 'Debit Machine', as Point of Sale is not accurate. Ditto for ATM's. 

We have some things in our environment that don't exactly match any of the listings, and I'd rather not be forced to manually type in descriptions in any field if that can be avoided, otherwise, I may type 'debit', but another may type 'transelect', or yet another may type 'visa', etc. Even if everyone is on the same page as to naming convention, there's the possibility of spelling errors, and then searches will not be accurate.
