Prevent Interface Up/Down alerting based on Port Description

What is the best way to prevent alerts for interface changes on specific ports. (Port desciption etc)

      Keith,

      Depending on exactly what your trying to do, this can be done with some noevent config in NMIS or maybe some complex escalation policies in NMIS or some very simple action policies in opEvents.

      One question would be do you want to collect data from these interfaces at all?  Getting your collection policies right should make a big difference to the level of noise and help with general scaling as well.

        Yes. We want to collect all the data, just not notify when a port goes up or down. Take this examples, we monitor 20 switches at a location with 500 ports. We care when a server port goes down or an uplink port goes down, but not when a user port does. We'd like to configure NMIS to automatically look for the word "User" in the port description and not alert on it's status.

      At this time interface up/down events can only be disabled on a per-node-and-interface basis, via Setup->Node Customisation (or via the Node Configuration link on a node's main display panel).

      (This limitation does not apply to threshold alerts or model-based alerts, which support optional control expressions to determine whether the alert should be active in a particular environment/situation.)
