Hi, we have just installed Open-AudIT Enterprise 1.12. It is a great piece of software, but we are struggling to get it to show hostnames of devices. Some are showing up and some are not - the ones that aren't, show an IP address only.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Hope you can help.
You will need to rescan the subnets for the hostnames to be pulled in automatically.
Sorry my first answer was a bit short. I was responding from a mobile.
Open-AudIT uses nmap to scan for hosts using the IP addresses provided. During that process it will try to detect the hostname using reverse DNS.
You can manually perform this lookup on windows typing "nslookup <IP Address of host>" on a command prompt e.g. "nslookup 10.10.10.1". On a Linux host you can use "host <IP Address of host>".
If that returns the hostname, it will appear in Open-AudIT after a scan.
*Disclaimer, I am pretty new to Open AudIT and I am just sharing my experience and current understanding. There may be a better answer, but this is how it is working for me.
Awesome - thanks Craig! Super fast response and mega helpful.
OK thanks. Will we need to rescan each subnet after that?
Thanks for your help.
You need to have reverse DNS entries for the hosts.
